Original Limited Edition Boxing Poster * Muhammad Ali vs. Sonny Liston * documenting the famous victory knockout by Muhammad Ali ( Cassius Marcellus Clay ) over former Heavyweight Champion Sonny Liston on May 25th 1965. In May of 1965 , Clay, now having changed his name to Muhammad Ali following his Islam conversion, and Liston met up for this , their second championship rematch. Midway through the first round, Liston was knocked down by one of Ali's punches, later dubbed by the press as the "phantom punch". Referee Jersey Joe Walcott stopped the match shortly afterwards and Ali was declared the winner around 1:52 of the first round. The two Ali versus Liston fights for boxing's world heavyweight championship were among the most anticipated, watched and controversial fights in the sport's history.
