Forced together on this violent and chaotic path of redemption and revenge, no action is considered too harsh as this volatile partnership is pushed beyond reason in this brutally realistic, character-driven third person action shooter. When it comes down to the story and its development—and the lengths at which I/O is willing to go to sell this new IP to the gamer—Kane & Lynch : Dead Men is actually superior to the Hitman game series. The storyline draws you in right away, as a vehicle full of prison inmates is ransacked, followed shortly by obvious chaos and gunfire. You soon learn that this motorized prison break is where the relationship between hired hand and clinically diagnosed lunatic begins. The plot of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men thickens from the opening scene on, as I/O really does a nice job at using flashbacks and Hollywood-style camera work to tell this tale. The visuals are all in-game, though, and the scenes of action are breathtaking, amazingly high production values are used here to pull it all off. The story cuts are also well integrated in with the gameplay, so there’s nary a feeling that you’re playing a game and watching a movie at the same time. The blend from playing to watching is surely good, as is the balance between the story moments and the actual number of gameplay hours.
