CEDAR LAKE BALLET Naharin’s DECADANCE Original Dance Poster NYC 2007 2' x 3' 2007 Rare , Mint Condition. Large Wall Size measures 24" inches wide by 36" inches high. Large Original Color Poster for the New York City 2007 CEDAR LAKE BALLET performing Ohad Naharin’s DECADANCE in Chelsea , New York City. This original poster features a beautiful portrait of dancer Ana-Maria Lucaciu. At the start of Ohad Naharin’s “ Decadance ” performed by the Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet , a line of dancers stands immobile in front of the audience. Then a body twitches and bursts into a buckling, convulsive dance, arms and legs lashing and flailing to the rhythms of Habib Alla Jamal’s music. Each of the dancers is compelled into dance until they all join in a fist-shaking crouch, no longer individuals but part of a tribal crowd. This sequence can be read in many ways, but its immediate visceral and kinetic impact mostly makes you want to jump onstage and dance, not analyze. Later in “Decadance” some audience members do get a chance to dance, in a beautifully choreographed sequence that magically combines formal structure for the dancers with space for the amateurs onstage to play. It could be corny or uncomfortable, but Mr. Naharin has a dry, unsentimental touch that leaves the actions feeling meaningful and poignant, the simplest way of asserting a common humanity.Mr. Naharin, the Israeli-born choreographer who became the artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company in 1990, has an exhilarating physical, sharply delineated movement style that propels dancers into geometric angles and calligraphic curves as their torsos circle and their limbs lash through the air. “Decadance,” which consists of 16 excerpts from Mr. Naharin’s works of the last 21 years, shows his consistent fascination with ritual, group activities and the way individuality bursts forth. (His own company has performed “Decadance” in changing configurations since 2000.). The New York Times says : " Beauty and ugliness, refinement and vulgarity, tribal urgency and individual will, humor and sadness: all are present, sometimes simultaneously, in “Decadance.” It is to the credit of the 16 dancers — all wonderful in their commitment, energy and precision — that Mr. Naharin’s weird and wonderful poetry of the body speaks so clearly.
