It is the follow-up to his hugely successful 2004 debut album, Back to Bedlam . The first single released from the album is "1973", which started radio play on July 23, 2007.Several songs on the album have been performed at live shows during his 2006 tours, including "1973" and "Annie." His touring band, consisting of Paul Beard (keyboards), Ben Castle (guitar), Malcolm Moore (bass guitar) and Karl Brazil (drums and percussion), backed Blunt on the new album. Tom Rothrock returns as producer; Rothrock also produced Back to Bedlam. Blunt also performed the song "Same Mistake" during his performance at the Live Earth concert in London.Victoria Newton of The Sun called the CD cover the "best in years", although she was criticised for this. The cover consists of hundreds of pictures of Blunt (from childhood to recent) as a collage of his face. Designer Nin Bose joked that "James asked us not to use his face on the cover – so we put it on 1,000 times." Allmusic.com says " All The Lost Souls will seduce anybody already won over by his 2005 debut, Back to Bedlam, since it's a tighter, more assured record than that. But chances are, they were seduced by Blunt already.
