Ink " follows the events of "High Voltage Tattoo", a tattoo shop in Los Angeles , California. It is a spinoff of " Miami Ink " and stars Kat Von D. This new shop is owned by renowned tattoo artist Kat Von D , who became well known outside of the tattoo world as a result of her tenure on reality show " Miami Ink". After a fall out with the co-owner and tattooist Ami James , Von D left the series " Maimi Ink " and was offered her own show " L.A. Ink ". Over the past season she’s made it pretty clear that the Miami scene was not for her, and that her coworkers just don’t like to party enough and that basically she doesn’t like being told what to do. Rumor has it that this particular battle stems from her infamous scuffle with Orange County Choppers honcho Paul Teutul Sr. If you missed it, the American Chopper personality and his lady love were going to have Kat and Garver fly up to New York and give them tattoos , but basically when Paul’s girlfriend wanted an arm band of hearts, Kat told them it was beneath her and that she didn’t see why she was going since it was a waste of her talent. Miami Ink store owners Ami and Chris Nuñez had to make nice with gruff guy Paul Sr. , and they both visited Orange County to do their tattoos personally as a show of good faith. Ami was less than pleased with Kat’s attitude and thus and so , Kat was on her own to open her new shop in the heart of Los Angeles. Along with Kat Von D the new series , " L.A. INK " will feature fellow tattoo artists Corey Miller, Hannah Aitchison and Kim Saigh. Each new episode features a number of customers along with their personal backstories and motivations for choosing their particular tattoos. There is also much focus on the personal lives of each of the tattoo artists of L.A. INK.
