As outsiders looking in, Dan (Penn Badgley) and Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen) do not run in the same social or financial circles as their peers but are drawn into their lives nonetheless. The series is narrated by a seemingly omniscient character, "Gossip Girl" (voiced by Kristen Bell of the hit series Veronica Mars), who runs a blog about her fellow Upper East Siders consequently stirring the pot and creating potential rivalries in this exclusive and vicious circle of friends.The show is created by Josh Schwartz, the creator of the popular CW series The O.C., and Stephanie Savage, who also serve as executive producers alongside Bob Levy and Leslie Morgenstein. Originally intended to be adapted into a film by Warner Bros. with Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino writing the screenplay and actress Lindsay Lohan attached to star, the project never went into production and was ultimately shelved. The novel series was then considered for adaptation for television by Alloy Entertainment. Development of the show began in August 2006 when The CW gave it a pilot commitment, with Josh Schwartz on board to create and executive produce.The first episode of the Second Season is set in the Hamptons & titled "Summer, Kind of Wonderful," a take from the John Hughes' film "Some Kind of Wonderful." The premiere aired on the CW on September 1st with 3.4 million viewers, an impressive number for The CW network.
