His short-lived tranquility is suddenly disturbed when he’s assigned to join his company’s top fraud investigator ( Romany Malco ) on a case – back in Las Vegas. Whilst on his trip back to Vegas , which John takes from Albuquerque with his new mysterious, possibly sinister co-worker Virgil (Malco) to investigate a claim , he must face his demons and learn to embrace life in the form of a disturbingly perky co-worker (Sarah Silverman) who’s smitten with him. Buscemi's character is such a pitiful loser, we initially encounter him gambling away his gas money ( on his way to his new dead-end insurance adjuster job ) in Albuquerque New Mexico on scratch-off lottery tickets. Once embarking on with his new co-workers on his unexpected road-trip back to Vegas - the town he had thought he had finally fled for good , he slowly descends into the depths of hell - his own private hell, one strange scene towards Vegas at a time.
