Kick-Ass concerns a typical teenage boy, Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), who decides to become a real-life superhero after being inspired by the heroes of comic books. Lizewski fails at his first attempt to fight crime, ending up very badly injured in the process (which results in a short stay in hospital after having been stabbed). Dave remains undeterred by this small setback, and ends up intervening in a fight outside a diner. Using two modified night-sticks, he engages them and wins. A man inside the diner, who filmed the events on his phone, asks Dave who he is as the fight ends, to which Dave replies: "I'm Kick-Ass". The video is posted on the internet and soon becomes an internet phenomenon, making Kick-Ass a star overnight. His attempts at being a super hero soon cause him to learn that it isn't as glamorous as it seems. Soon he encounters a mysterious young vigilante named Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz), and her father Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage). They have already heard about Kick-Ass' heroics from YouTube and the media. They end up working together in order to bring down the local crime syndicate leader Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong). Along the way, Kick-Ass meets another vigilante, Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), who has been inspired by Kick-Ass's exploits.
